SAFE – Supporting Animals and Families in Emergencies
Pets are part of families and when families encounter trouble, pets need assistance too. The Bucks County SPCA works with people who have a referral from a social worker or social service agency to ensure they have time to handle personal problems while their animals are temporarily cared for at one of our shelters.
We also work closely with first responders to teach them how to safely handle animals in emergency situations, and to educate them on spotting signs of trouble when in the field.
If you are a social services employee needing to arrange temporary housing for a client’s pets, call the shelter closest to you and speak to the shelter director.
If you are a first responder looking to arrange a workshop on how to safely handle animals in emergencies, please call Chief Humane Police Officer Nikki Thompson at 215-794-7425.
