Jane Coale is a full time RV-er who travels around the US bringing dog agility to communities and shelters alike.. “I stop at every animal shelter I find to help with the dogs (my exercise and therapy).” She has been training Dog Agility at the fun, beginner level for more than seven years and finds it be “a wonderful way of building trust, respect, confidence, and evaluating shelter dogs.” Agility gives volunteers and shelter dogs a new challenge. “Dog agility is a fun way to teach trust and respect with lots of treats and praise. I have built numerous, scaled down, easy obstacles that I use at RV park dog shows, then donate to shelters. I put my first “shelter dog show” with volunteers at the Bucks County SPCA in Pennsylvania. The dogs were wonderful and I could see the volunteers’ pride in their great training (mostly teenagers). Fun activities help prevent burnout. Fun dog shows a few times a year, showcase the dogs and volunteers and is good press for the shelter. This shelter has a great adoption rate and a wonderful volunteer training program. My dream is to have this kind of community involvement at all shelters.” We welcomed Jane back for a third year of Just For Fun Agility with volunteer and community members.
