The Bucks County SPCA performs a vital public service in assuming responsibility for approximately 4,000 lost, injured or homeless animals each year. We accept all domestic animals brought into the shelter, without charge.

The Bucks County SPCA is one of the best places to find your pet a new home. While we can't guarantee placement of all the animals admitted to the shelter, we have many resources available to us to place as many as we can. We routinely work with rescue groups and we advertise adoptable pets in several local newspapers, with Comcast on demand and on Petfinder.org.

By special arrangement with the townships and Animal Control, stray animals are either picked up from police holding facilities by the Bucks County SPCA Van, or are brought by the police or Animal Control, to the Bucks County SPCA. In addition, it is not uncommon for good Samaritans to bring in strays that they find.

All stray dogs are held for a period of 5 days with the hope of locating the owner. If we are unable to locate an owner the animal is evaluated for temperament, and if found to be safe, then placed for adoption.

Why adopt from a shelter?
Every year hundreds of animals are turned into shelters either as strays or unwanted pets. This makes a shelter the perfect place to look for a companion. The Bucks County SPCA receives all kinds of purebred and mixed breeds, dogs and cats, as well as rabbits, hamsters, and the occasional bird or reptile. Each animal that comes into our shelter is evaluated for health and temperament. By working with each animal to better understand its personality and history, we can better help our patrons make an informed choice as to what type/breed of animal best suits their lifestyle.

Adopting a Friend...
At the Bucks County SPCA we want adoptions to last a lifetime. We will ask you to complete a short questionnaire that tells us a little bit about the pets you currently have (or recently owned), and what you're looking for in a new companion. Don't worry, the process is friendly. Come prepared to provide identification that reflects your current address and landlord approval (if applicable). The Bucks County SPCA welcomes your interest and input, and we look forward to meeting you!

Adoption Donations
A tax-deductible donation is asked for all animals adopted. Adoptions include:

• Temperament evaluation
• A basic health exam and vaccines (if appropriate)
• Sterilization of animal (spay/neuter) or deposit
• Feline Leukemia testing for all cats/kittens
• Cat carriers
• Microchip ID (except small animals)
• Lifetime support for animal questions or problems (behavior or general)

Pets Wanted File
Bucks County SPCA sees all breeds and types of animals that need homes.  Interested adopters can fill out an application for our Pets Wanted File to be called if that pet comes into the shelter.  Pets Wanted File Applications can be filled out in person or taken by our helpful staff over the phone.  Please be prepared to provide information on what type/breed of pet, age range, sex, coat type, weight range and a veterinary reference.  Once you application is approved, we will keep you on our file.  We may call every so often to check if your are still looking and we do ask that you call us if you find a pet on your own. 

Adoption fees are as follows:

Dogs/Puppies: $135 (additional fees may apply for some adoptions)
Cats/Kittens: $50 to $75
Small Animals: $5 and up
