Director of Animal Behavior
(Full-time / Split time between Lahaska and Quakertown)
This position is responsible for facilitating the operations and growth of the BCSPCA animal behavior program. It includes refining, developing, and implementing internal and external animal behavior programs for the BCSPCA, which encompasses regular travel between shelter locations and occasional travel to other locations both in and outside the county. Primary responsibilities include behavior staff training and oversight; program planning and development; ensuring animals are assessed and observations are recorded and communicated in a timely manner; arranging for evaluation of animals by outside experts as needed; making behavior-based recommendations about adoptability of individual animals; directing staff and volunteer activities to meet the behavioral needs of animals in the care of BCSPCA; and coordinating behavior based support for adopters and pet owners served by BCSPCA. This position also coordinates the transport-in and rescue partnership programs; facilitates staff and volunteer training that is related to behavior and enrichment; and prepares department reports.
College degree preferred, professional dog training certification such as CPDT-KA, CPDT-KSA, CBCC-KA, ACAAB, or Shelter Behavior Affiliate (IAABC) highly preferred.
Minimum of 5 years relevant work experience in dog behavior assessment required. Cat behavior work experience strongly preferred. Minimum of 3 years of work experience in a shelter environment required.

The shelter medicine program is a key component in our efforts to achieve BCSPCA’s objectives focused on caring for animals and improving placement rates. The Staff Veterinarian is a key member of the Shelter Medicine department, bringing his/her knowledge of shelter animal care and surgical expertise to the team. The Staff Veterinarian will be responsible for performing surgical procedures (primarily spay/neuter of cats, dogs and rabbits) and physical examinations on healthy and sick shelter animals. This position requires knowledge of and an interest in Shelter Medicine.
The Staff Veterinarian position is an exempt, full time, 40 hours per week position, which includes one day on the weekend. This position is split between our Lahaska and Quakertown shelters. The Clinic Technician is responsible for assisting the Veterinarian in surgery and with medical examinations. The technician may also be assigned to perform basic animal care and husbandry, initial physical examinations for incoming animals, assist with veterinary rounds, vaccinate and medicate shelter animals, and schedule animals for examinations as needed.
Experience working in an animal shelter or veterinary hospital is required. This is a full time position and includes one weekend day per week.
Animal and Customer Care Technician
(Part-time / Lahaska)
Bucks County SPCA is currently accepting applications for part-time entry level Animal Care and Office Attendant at the Lahaska shelter. Responsibilities include kennel cleaning, animal handling, answering phones, admitting animals, screening for adoptions and providing excellent customer service. A driver’s license is required and Bucks County residents are preferred.
